Comorbidity with Mental Health and Eating Disorders

There are high rates of comorbidity with eating disorders. If you or a loved one is struggling, know you are not alone.

Mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) often coexist with eating disorders like anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge-eating disorder. These disorders can reinforce each other, creating a complex web that complicates diagnosis and treatment. Treating one condition without addressing the underlying mental health issues or vice versa can hinder recovery effort.

Temperament-based therapy with support (TBT-S) offers a personalized and well-rounded approach to recovery, honoring individual differences and fostering resilience. By understanding temperament, tailoring therapeutic interventions, and cultivating a supportive network, individuals can embark on a journey of growth, and transformation. TBT-S is designed to treat eating disorders, but we also work through depressive symptoms, anxiety driven behaviors, and a variety of other comorbid diagnosis while in the 5-day intensive treatment. The primary focus remains on eating disorder treatment, but we do not examine symptoms or the illness in a vacuum. With understanding, support, psychoeducation, and practical tools, the path to recovery becomes a shared endeavor, filled with hope and possibility.
